Update: Regina Downtown Neighbourhood Plan

Regina_Update_Feature.jpgAnother significant milestone was reached for the Regina Downtown Neighbourhood Plan (RDNP) upon its public release on May 12, 2009.

This version of the RDNP reflects over ten months of additional consultation and capacity building with key stakeholders since Forum 3 in June 2008, and includes two sets of crucial improvements to the Plan. Additional workshops with City Staff, where components of the RDNP were refined, also added depth and resilience to this final version. Public comments were received until May 27, 2009 and will be used towards completing the final version of the Plan.

Currently, work is underway to transform the RDNP into a City By-law which will effectively install the policy framework that will shape the Downtown for the next 20 years. In the meantime, City Staff and Council along with Office for Urbanism will continue to liaise with the public to begin implementing several of the initiatives recommended in the RDNP. Noteworthy achievements include the establishment of a City Centre Branch within the City bureaucracy to oversee the implementation of the RDNP, and emerging conversations with institutions interested in investing in Downtown. These have only occurred as a result of the momentum gained through the Vision of the Plan.

The RDNP is expected to be presented to Regina Planning Commission and subsequently to Regina City Council in August, 2009.
