Office for Urbanism presented at this year's 2009 CIP/OPPI Building a Better World Conference in Niagara Falls.
Antonio Gómez-Palacio and Philip Goldsmith of PGA led a session on Saving Our Cities: Contemporary Approaches to Heritage Planning:
Heritage conservation is not just about saving old buildings, it is about enhancing the meaning and quality of life by maintaining a unique sense of place and supporting the cultural and economic vitality of areas with a strong cultural identity. This session is about integrating heritage expertise with the experience of other professions, such as planning, design, and environmental preservation, and bringing together many different ways of thinking about heritage planning.

Jennifer Keesmaat, together with Reid Henry and Marian Donnely, led a session on Culture Plans in Challenging Times:
Is your community suffering from "planning fatigue"? In this precarious economic environment, how can planners and cultural practitioners convince the public, decision-makers, and politicians that cultural plans, often dealing with relative intangibles, are essential tools to employ in challenging times, both for community building and economic development? How do cultural plans contribute to transforming the economy of communities and how do you, as a planner, get this issue on your community's agenda?
