Downtown Yonge BIA Signage Guidelines

Office for Urbanism created a ’vision’ for Third-party signage in the heart of Toronto for the Downtown Yonge Business Improvement Area (DYBIA). Historically, signage has defined Toronto’s Downtown and contributed to its draw as one of the City’s preeminent shopping and tourist destinations. The area also has significant heritage building stock that is in disrepair and needs to be reconciled with the contemporary nature of these signs. The guidelines provide recommendations to the DYBIA and the City of Toronto on an approach to guiding and assessing applications for rapidly proliferating Third-party signage that can balance local interests with broader City planning and urban design objectives, to ensure an overall consistency in the quality of signage while enhancing the area’s distinct character.
