Wizard Lake Area Structure Plan

Office for Urbanism, in conjunction with MMM Group, Thurber Engineering Ltd., and Fiera Biological Consulting Ltd., are in the process of preparing an Area Structure Plan for the Wizard Lake Watershed Area in Leduc County.

The Wizard Lake Watershed Area is a valuable natural resource for the residents and visitors to Leduc County and a significant recreational amenity that supports summer and winter activities. Wizard Lake and its watershed area have been subject to increasing demand for residential, recreational, and mixed use development. In response to this demand, Office for Urbanism has been retained by Leduc County to create an Area Structure Plan in the context of an open planning process aimed at engaging the local and wider communities to articulate a common vision for the watershed area. Office for Urbanism has encouraged residents, landowners, business owners, County Staff and Council, as well as other interested stakeholders to join in and participate in several public workshop and open house events as a means of garnering interest and gathering feedback that will help to inform and shape the plan.

The Wizard Lake Area Structure Plan is to be a long-range plan with a 20-25 year planning horizon. It will provide a policy framework to manage growth and land uses around the lake and within the watershed area. The final Area Structure Plan will be used to assist the County and landowners in making long-term land use decisions.
