Office for Urbanism, as project lead, in association with Hemson Consulting Inc., has been retained by the City of Winnipeg to lead the preparation of a Residential Land and Infill Strategy that will inform the City's review of Plan Winnipeg, its development plan (municipal plan).
The mandate for the Residential Land and Infi ll Strategy is to identify ways for the City of Winnipeg to accommodate anticipated growth in a manner that is sustainable, and that will lead to the creation of complete communities. To this end, Office for Urbanism developed a model to assess the capacity of various categories of developable land (including introducing new categories of land not previously recognized by the municipality), and developed a series of potential growth scenarios, demonstrating the implications of status quo development patterns and residential densities (low density greenfield development and rural expansion), as well as the implications of a variety of approaches to infill and redevelopment, and the application of higher density housing typologies.
